Glossary of Terms
| 2 Pack Inks |
Inks which use a chemically reactive hardener. This
hardener must be added in the correct quantity to the ink before printing to
ensure the ink cures correctly. |
| UV Cured Inks |
Inks which is cured by the use of UV lights. |
| Abrasive blasting |
The process of roughening, treating or cleaning a surface, with
the use of a jet of blasting media propelled by compressed air or
stream. |
| Air Cured Inks |
Inks which is cured by exposure to air. |
| Blasting media |
Grains which are made from media such as garnet or sand, that
are propelled to form the jet used in the process of abrasive
blasting. |
| Cures |
The hardening or drying of a media applied to a surface, such
an ink or powder coating. |
| Dry |
The process of removing moisture or hardening a media applied
to a surface, such a ink or paint. |
| Emulsion |
Light sensitive coating applied to a silk screen, used to apply
the printing design to the screen. |
| Gloss |
The shiny and reflective qualifies of a surface or coating on a
surface. |
| Opacity |
The level at which a surface or surface coating can transmit
light through it. |
| Pigments |
The solid coloured particles used in inks, paints and dyes to
give them there colour. |
| Powder coating |
A tough finishing coating that can be applied to many
surfaces. Powder coating involves coating surfaces with a dry powder which
requires baking to cure. |
| Screen |
A stencil used for screen printing which in cannot pass
through. The screen normally consists of a wooden or metal rectangular
frame, with a silk mesh stretched across it. The printing design is then
applied to the mesh, so it can be used to print with. |
| Spray painting |
The painting of surfaces by applying a fine spray of tiny
droplets of paint. |
| Substrates |
A surface which is to be painted, printed
etc. |
